- “I Never interfere with council legislative arm”
- Congratulates new Leader of the Legislative House of Surulere Local Government Area
- Believes Surulere will continue to progress in all ways
After the series of insinuations from different quarters that Hon. Tajudeen Ajide, the Executive Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area was instrumental to the impeachment of the former Leader of the Legislative House of Surulere Local Government Area, Hon. Segun Ijitola, the Chairman called a meeting on Monday, September 13 including the Vice Chairman, Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Councillors, Head of Administration, Supervisors, Special Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants for clarity purposes.
The issues were put in the right perspectives as the Local Government Chairman asked repeatedly with all vigor from the Councillors, if he had ever discussed anything about impeaching Hon. Ijitola. The Councillors confirmed that he had no hand in Hon. Ijitola’s impeachment.
The Chairman said “though, I do disperse the approach Hon. Ijitola employed while in office which made our relationship estranged, I never had a hand in his ordeal. His uncharismatic disposition amongst his Councillors (colleagues) caused his ordeal”.
This above assertion of the Chairman was said after the Councillors read out the nine (9) count allegations which were premised on gross misconduct and fraudulent act. This prompted the passing of no confidence on him on Thursday, August 30, 2018, hence his impeachment.
Hon. Ajide has always regarded the legislative arm as an independent body and chose not to dabble at any time into their affairs. Such behavior is expected of a democratic citizen.
The meeting also provided the Councillors with the opportunity to express their firm stand on their decision and buttress the fact that a new leadership is in place because there can’t be a vacuum.
The new Leader of the Legislative House of Surulere LGA is Hon. Barakat Bakare-Akande. She was the former Deputy Leader while Hon. Adebisi Davis Adebayo is the new Deputy Leader.
The Chairman prayed for their success while advising them to take cognizance of the mistakes of the past Leader as a guide in driving their conduct. He stressed that everybody was elected to serve the people of Surulere. He, therefore, announced that their decision is noted and accepted.
Responding on behalf of Councillors, Hon Bakare-Akande expressed her readiness to work for the progress and development of the Local Government.
There are so many benefits to getting involved in community projects.
She promised that peace and tranquility shall reign supreme as it is a new dawn. Absent at the meeting was Hon. Segun Ijitola; and Hon. Ajala Ajibola who was away in Holy Land of Mecca.
